Description
The male figure is holding an amber and green glazed towel, and the female figure is holding a covered box. Both figures are covered in green and amber glazes, and stand on hexagonal plinths. They are wearing long skirts, with a jacket, the man has a cone-shaped hat and the woman wears a decorated ribbon in her raised hair.
This type of ceramics is named Sancai, literally ‘three colours’. A white body with the characteristic green, amber and white lead-glaze is fired in kilns up to 900℃. The lead-oxide in the glaze, and added copper and iron, influenced the striking colours.
Height man: 43.5 cm, height woman: 46.5 cm.
