This bronze ritual wine vessel, pou, has a bulbous body that is flat cast around the sides. Over time, the pou has acquired an allover light malachite encrustation with areas of brown and green patina. The bottom of the vessel has a cross-shaped pattern consisting of double bands.

During the centralized empires of the Qin and Han, bronze was not only used for ritual vessels and ware, but also for common daily objects. Some of the traditional shapes disappeared and others, like the hu and the ding, transformed into their more utilitarian use. In addition to these traditional vessels, new shapes emerged during the Han dynasty; including the pou, a vessel used for (ritual) wine.
